Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team opened the 2017 Fall season in strong fashion on Thursday with a 9-0 road win at Bard. Four Knights shutout their opponents in the match, including
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) at second singles.
McGorty was one of three players to win by 6-0, 6-0 scores as he picked up his first win of the season.
Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.) and
Armando Avila (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) blanked their opponents at the fifth and sixth positions, while
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up a 6-0, 2-0, retired win at fourth singles.
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) started the season in fine fashion with a 6-2, 6-0 first singles win, while
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) battled to a 6-4, 6-4 third singles victory for the Knights.
Thursday's match saw Tiriolo and
Matt Gallo score an 8-0 win at third doubles, with Anastasi and McGorty teaming for an 8-4 win at the top flight. Terry and Benfer outlasted their second doubles opponent, 9-7.
At 1-0 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to dual match competition at Ramapo on October 4, while Anastasi and McGorty will compete at the ITA Northeast Regional at Skidmore over the weekend.
