Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Golf program will open the 2017 season on Friday morning when it travels to league rival Yeshiva. The dual match with the Maccabees is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at Emerson Golf Club in Emerson, N.J.
At A Glance: The Knights return five players from the 2016 team that finished as the runner-up at the Skyline Conference Championship. Senior
Dylan Legg (Hanies Falls, N.Y.) was one of three All-Conference selections from 2016, earning Second Team accolades for the Mount for the second time in his career.
The only other player from the Mount's top-five at the 2016 Championship is sophomore
Matt Higgins (Meriden, Conn.) who completed the two-day event for the Knights in a tie for the 22
nd position.
Also returning from last season's squad are juniors Brian Gayton (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and
Tyler Mannix (Waterbury, Conn.) along with sophomore
Caitlin Valmas (Allenwood, N.J.).
Newcomers: Head Coach
Michael Coppolino welcomes a talented group of six newcomers for the 2017 season. Freshmen
Ryan Bayer (New Windsor, N.Y.),
Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.),
James Cunningham (Fisherville, Va.) and
Daniel Schena (Cheshire, Conn.) along with sophomore
Connor Reilly (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and junior
Christopher Ruggiero (Newburgh, N.Y.) will look to work their way into the Mount's top-five in 2017.
The Schedule: Following Friday's season opener, the Mount will be off until October 6 when they head to Bethpage Red for the Farmingdale State Fall Invitational.
