Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team opens a four match home stand on Wednesday when it plays host to league rival Yeshiva at 7:00 p.m. The home stand continues with matches against Plattsburgh State and New Rochelle beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday.
At a Glance: The Knights opened the 2017 season on Friday with a 6-3 road non-conference loss at Western Connecticut. Sophomore
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) continued the strong start to her career with a 6-0, 6-4 first singles win. She moves to 1-0 on the young season and to 15-1 in her first 16 career matches at the top flight.
Mount Saint Mary also received singles victories against the Colonials from senior
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) and freshman
Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.). Tighe posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the fifth position, while Quinn started her collegiate career with a 7-5, 6-4 sixth singles victory.
A Look At Yeshiva: The Maccabees were picked second in the Skyline Conference Preseason Poll and enter a non-conference match on Tuesday at Oneonta at a perfect 3-0 overall, with all wins coming against league rivals. After beating Purchase 5-3, Yeshiva topped preseason favorite Farmingdale State 8-1 and defeated St. Joseph's-L.I. by the same 8-1 score.
The Maccabees have dropped just three singles matches to date and are 7-2 in nine doubles decisions. Shani Hava is 3-0 at the top singles position with Michal Ladenheim and Rebecca Packer holding 3-0 records in singles play.
Previewing Plattsburgh State: The Cardinals enter a busy week at 2-2 overall on the season and suffered a 5-0 loss to Oneonta and a 5-2 loss to Cortland to open SUNYAC play. Plattsburgh returns to action Wednesday at St. Michael's and travels to New Paltz on Friday before taking on the Knights.
Scouting New Rochelle: The Blue Angels are coming off a 3-11 2016 season that included a 9-0 loss to the Mount on September 23. The Mount dropped just one game in the match, with the top doubles pair posting an 8-1 win.
Men's Team Begins Fall Play: The Mount Saint Mary Men's team is also in action this week to begin the fall portion of its schedule. The Knights travel to Nichols for a 3:30 match on Friday afternoon.
