Women’s Lacrosse Suffers Skyline Semifinal Loss At Top-Seeded Farmingdale State

Gattoni scores five times, Henke wins four draw controls

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team saw its season come to a close on Thursday afternoon with a 22-8 loss at top-seeded Farmingdale State in the semifinal round of the 2017 Skyline Conference Championship. Senior Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) led the Mount's scoring attack with five goals.
 
After the two teams traded goals over the opening 3:03 of the game, the Rams ran off the next six goals to open a 7-1 lead with 15:44 left in the opening half. Maggie Pedersen (Glasco, N.Y.) stopped a nearly 12 minute scoring drought at the 15:08 mark, before the Rams closed the half with four of the final six goals to carry an 11-4 lead into the intermission.
 
Gattoni scored three times in the first half for the Mount, including twice in the last 13:41 of the half. The Knights were outshot in the first 30 minutes 23-5, but scored on all four of their shots on goal. The Rams controlled groundballs in the opening stanza, 15-7 and draw controls, 14-2.
 
Farmingdale State broke the game open coming out of halftime with the first eight tallies to open a 19-4 lead. Gattoni got the Mount back on the board with her fourth of the game at the 12:59 mark of the second half before Farmingdale State scored three times to open a 22-5 lead with 8:56 left to play.
 
The Mount scored consecutive goals for the first time in the game when they strung together the final three scores of the game in the final 7:15. Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored twice in the run, with Gattoni adding her fifth of the game.
 
Gattoni finished with five goals and an assist to finish her senior campaign with 65 goals, 18 assists and 83 points. She will leave the program as the all-time leader in all three categories, finishing her career with 235 goals, 50 assists and 285 points.
 
Ryan finished the game with a pair of goals with Pedersen posting a goal and a draw control. Amanda Clemens (Baldwin, N.Y.), Chelsea Henke (Pawling, N.Y.) and Allison Dione (Burlington, Conn.) each finished with three groundballs, with Henke winning a team-high four draw controls. Clemens, Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) and Jennifer Bones (Camden, Del.) all caused two turnovers for the Knights.
 
Farmingdale State was led by seven goals from Brittany Rosino, with Courtney Gendels scoring four times and assisting on four other goals. Rosino led all players with eight draw controls and Kristen Keller picked up a game-high four groundballs.
 
Sophomore Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made six saves in goals in just shy of 22 minutes, with Carolyn Smith (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) coming on to make a career-high eight saves in just over 38 minutes of work. Tori Johnston picked up the win in goal for the Rams with a pair of saves.
 
Farmingdale State finished the game with the advantage in shots 43-13, shots on goal 36-11, groundballs 22-13 and draw controls 25-6.
 
Thursday's loss closes the Mount Saint Mary season at 7-8.
 
Game Notes: Thursday marked the Knights' first ever appearance in the semifinal round…The Mount is 1-6 all-time in the Skyline Conference Championship.
