Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team picked up its first win in the Skyline Conference Championship since the 2014 season on Tuesday with a 5-2 victory over fifth seeded Farmingdale State. The win is the first in five meetings since the 2011 campaign for the Knights over the Rams in the event.
Mount Saint Mary took three of the four singles matches that finished and two of the three doubles tilts to pick up their second straight victory over Farmingdale State. Sophomore
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) pushed his singles winning streak to eight in the contest with a 6-0, 5-7, 6-0 second singles win that moved him to 10-4 overall on the season and to 8-2 in his last 10 decisions.
Senior
Owen Heath (Jamestown, R.I.) remained unbeaten for the Knights in singles action with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at fourth singles on Tuesday. He moved his record to a perfect 7-0 on the season, including a 6-0 mark at the fourth slot.
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) returned to the win column for the Knights at fifth singles and moved to 3-5 on the season with a hard fought 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
The Knights got off to a good start in the doubles portion of the match with wins at the first two positions. McGorty and senior
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) won their seventh straight match at the first position with an 8-4 win, while Heath and
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) scored an 8-2 second doubles win as they moved to 6-1 as a pair of the season.
Tuesday win improves Mount Saint Mary to 9-6 overall on the season. The Knights will take on Yeshiva Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, N.J.
