Women’s Lacrosse Drops Regular Season Finale At Farmingdale State

Pedersen scoops five groundballs for the Knights

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team, who has secured a spot in the 2017 Skyline Conference Championship, suffered an 18-4 road loss at Farmingdale State in its regular season finale. Sophomore Maggie Pedersen (Glasco, N.Y.) paced the Knights with five groundballs.
 
Mount Saint Mary scored just one goal in the first half on Saturday and saw Farmingdale State use scoring runs of four goals and six goals to carry a 10-1 lead into halftime. Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) scored the team's only goal of the opening 30 minutes with her 53rd of the season at the 20:36 mark.
 
The Knights managed only five shots in the first half, with Farmingdale State holding the edge in category 22-5 at the break. The Rams picked up 11 of the 19 groundballs in the first half and won eight of the 12 draw controls contested.
 
The Knights scored two goals in the opening 10:36 of the second stanza, but scored just three times after halftime. Following a Mikaela Rios (Mastic, N.Y.) goal at the 19:24 mark of the second period, the Mount went nearly 11 minutes without a goal and saw the Rams score four times to open a 16-3 lead.
 
Gattoni accounted for half of the team's goals in the game and led the team with five draw controls. Rios and Jennifer Bones (Camden, Del.) added the other goals for the Knights with Bones adding a groundball.  Pedersen collected five groundballs in the loss and paced the team with three caused turnovers.
 
Farmingdale State was led by seven goals from Brittany Rosino who added five draw controls. Janisha Sanchez assisted on three goals and picked up three groundballs. Victoria Varone contributed four groundballs and won three draw controls.
 
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished with seven saves in nearly 46 minutes of work, with Carolyn Smith (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) coming on to make three stops. Krista Spagnoletta picked up the win for the Rams with five stops.
 
Farmingdale State closed the day with the edge in shots 37-13, shots on goal 28-9, groundballs 21-13 and draw controls 14-10.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 6-7 overall on the season and to 5-3 in league play. The Knights open the 2017 Skyline Conference Championship on Tuesday with location, opponent and time to be announced.
