Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team saw its six match winning streak stopped on Sunday afternoon following a tough 5-4 defeat at the hands of visiting Purchase on Senior Day. Seniors Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) and Owen Heath (Jamestown, R.I.) collected two of the Mount's three singles victories in the match.
 
Anastasi picked up his eighth straight singles win for the Knights on Sunday, as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 first singles victory over Riley Damerell. The win moved to Anastasi 11-1 overall in singles play on the season and 5-1 against Skyline Conference opponents.
 
Heath remained unbeaten in singles play on the season and pushed his mark to 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 fourth singles win. Heath moved to 4-0 at the fourth position this season and to a perfect 3-0 against conference rivals.
 
The Mount's other singles win on Sunday came at the second position where sophomore Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) outlasted Purchase's Joseph Troop. McGorty won his fifth straight singles decision and moved to 4-2 in league competition with a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-8) win for the Knights.
 
The Knights lone doubles win on Sunday came at the top position where Anastasi and McGorty posted a hard fought 8-6 win over the pair of Damerell and Troop from Purchase. The duo moved to 5-5 overall at the first pair and t 4-2 against league rivals.
 
Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark at 6-6 overall and to 3-3 in league play. The Knights return to action on Tuesday with a non-conference match against Brooklyn. Match time with the Bulldogs is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
