Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team posted an 8-1 non-conference win over visiting John Jay on Thursday, picking up its sixth straight victory. The Knights won five of the six singles matches in the contest, with senior
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) winning his seventh straight decision.
Anastasi moved to 10-1 overall on the season in singles matches at the top position and won his seventh straight decision. He dispatched his opponent from John Jay by scores of 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday.
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) played his first match of the season at second singles on Thursday and picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory. He evened his singles record on the season at 5-5 and picked up his fourth straight victory on Thursday.
Owen Heath (Jamestown, R.I.) moved up to third singles and posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory with
Kyle McIntyre (Drexel Hills, Pa.) battling to a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) fourth singles win.
Jason Wojciechowicz (Walden, N.Y.) moved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles victory.
The Knights dominated the doubles competition to open the night, with the second pair of Anastasi and
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) teaming for an 8-0 win in their first match together of the season. Terry and Heath cruised to an 8-3 win at the top position and McIntyre and
Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.) pushed their record to 5-2 with an 8-2 victory at third doubles.
At 6-5 overall on the season Mount Saint Mary returns to Skyline Conference action on Saturday when it hosts Farmingdale State. Match time with the Rams is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
