Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) set her second career program record in as many games this season on Wednesday with a four goal effort for the Knights in a 14-6 non-conference loss to Ramapo. With her scoring output, Gattoni moved into first place all-time at Mount Saint Mary College with 211 points.
After being held to one goal in the opening period on Wednesday, Gattoni scored three of the Knights' four second half goals to move into sole possession of first in points at the Mount. She extended her program record goal total to 177 and passed Kaileen Spadaro's previous points mark of 210.
The Knights were held off the board for the first 25 minutes of action on Wednesday before freshman
Mikaela Rios (Mastic, N.Y.) and Gattoni scored back-to-back goals to bring the Knights to within 4-2 with 4:08 left before halftime. The goal for Rios was the first of her career and first of two in the game.
Ramapo quickly spread its lead back to four goals with a pair of tallies in the final four minutes of the first half to take a 6-2 advantage into halftime. The Roadrunners outshot the Mount 15-7 in the opening 30 minutes and won five of the nine draw controls contested.
Coming out of the break, the visitors scored the first four goals of the second half in the first five-and-a-half minutes to break the game open with a 10-2 advantage. Rios scored her second of the game at the 22:23 mark of the second half, before Ramapo ripped off four of the next five goals to take a 14-4 lead with 2:53 left to play.
Gattoni scored the Mount's final three goals of the night, including two in the final minute of play to push her team lead in the category to seven and her team lead in points to nine.
Rios and Gattoni were the only goal scorers for the Knights in the game and the only two players to record a point.
Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) paced the Mount with four groundballs, while
Amanda Clemens (Baldwin, N.Y.) and
Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) each caused three turnovers.
Ramapo featured six different goal scorers and three players with a goal and an assist. Nicole Jaskot, Katie Duca and Alyssa Tachon each scored three times with Duca and Tachon also assisting on a pair of goals. Duca led all players with five groundballs and five draw controls, while Gabi Davidson caused four turnovers.
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made the start in goal and made seven stops for the Knights and picked up three groundballs in 41:35 of action.
Carolyn Smith (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) came on to play the final 18:25 and made a save for the Mount. Monica Bubello earned the win for the Roadrunners with five saves on the night.
Ramapo finished the night with the edge in shots 29-14 and shots on goal 22-11. The Roadrunners took the groundball battle 21-15 and won 15 of the 22 draw controls taken in the contest.
At 0-2 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will be back on the field Saturday afternoon when it travel to King's (Pa.). Opening Draw with the Monarchs is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
