Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Swimming teams return to action with a busy weekend when they host Maritime on Friday evening and travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday. The Knights and Privateers will square-off at 6:00 p.m. before the Mount Men take on St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and the women tussle with the Lady Bears and St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
MSMC Men At A Glance: The Knights return to action for the first time since competing at the Diamond City Invitational on November 18-19 where they finished seventh out of 11 teams.
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) had a strong weekend with the Mount's best individual finish of the event on day two. Kohlus opened competition with the team's best individual finish of the day with a third place showing in the 100-yard butterfly and added a ninth place finish for the Mount in the 500-yard freestyle on Saturday. His butterfly swim came in 54.55 seconds, while he touched the wall in the freestyle in 5:25.70.
Also on day one, Senior
Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also scored a top-10 finish for the Mount on Saturday, showing a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. He swam a time of 1:52.85 in his best finish of the day and added a 12
th place showing in the 500-yard race in 5:09.24.
On day two, Kohlus swam to the Mount's best individual finish of the event in the 200-yard butterfly on Sunday. He placed second in a time of 2:01.62, coming in just over two seconds behind the event's winner. Ward closed the event with a seventh place showing in the 100-yard freestyle for the Knights.
MSMC Women At A Glance: The Mount Saint Mary women's team is also in action for the first time since the Diamond City Invitational after scoring a sixth place finish out of 12 teams at the two-day event.
Junior
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) led the Mount with a pair of third place finishes on day one of the event. McNamee opened a strong individual day one with a third place showing in the 500-yard freestyle and followed that up with a third place finish for the Knights in the 200-yard freestyle. She completed the 500-yard event in 5:25.70 and swam a time of 2:00.54 in the 200-yard race.
Seniors
Marissa Catania (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and
Danielle Hughes (Oakville, Conn.) also picked up top-10 finishes for the Knights on Saturday. Both swimmers finished the 100-yard breaststroke race inside the top-10 with Catania placing fifth in 1:11.06 and Hughes taking eighth place in 1:13.16.
Freshman
Katie Barber (Shelton, Conn.) placed 10
th overall in the 400-yard individual medley for the Knights, with a time of 5:13.16.
On day two, Catania and Barber registered the team's best showings on Sunday, with each finishing fifth. Catania swam to her fifth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and showed a time of 2:34.85, while Barber posted a time of 2:29.53 in the 200-yard butterfly.
McNamee closed out a strong weekend with a seventh place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 19:08.41, while senior
mcGregor followed Barber in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing eighth in 2:33.13.
What's Next: Following Saturday's meet at St. Joseph's, the Knights will be off from competition until they welcome defending Skyline Conference Champions USMMA to the Kaplan Center Pool on January 13.
