Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team was topped for the first time in 2017 on Saturday with a 114-81 home loss to visiting King's (Pa.). Junior
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) and freshman
Daley O'Keefe (Glastonbury, Conn.) was picked up two runner-up finishes each.
McNamee continued her strong showings in the freestyle events for the Knights on Saturday, posting second place finishes in the two longest events of the meet. She touched out second in the 1,000-yard race in a time of 11:46.37 and showed a second place time of 5:34.00 in the 500-yard event.
O'Keefe, who was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, picked up second place points for the Mount in both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke. Her freestyle swim finished in 2:11.73, while her backstroke race was completed in 2:26.16.
Senior
Marissa Catania (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was the only Mount swimmer to score first place points on Saturday, earning them in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:38.93.
Katie Barber (Shelton, Conn.) also turned a strong swim on Saturday, placing second for the Knights in the 200-yard individual medley, showing a time of 2:28.67.
Mount Saint Mary opened the race on Saturday with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of O'Keefe, Catania,
Samantha McGregor (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and
Lauren Schroeder (Wantagh, N.Y.) swam a time of 2:01.94.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 3-1 overall on the season heading into a Skyline Conference road meet at Sarah Lawrence on November 11. Meet time with the Gryphons is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
