Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team begins a busy week on Tuesday when it hosts four-time defending Skyline Conference Champion Farmingdale State at 6:00 p.m. The Knights continue the week with a home match against Hartwick on Thursday before traveling to league rival Purchase on Saturday to close out the week.
At A Glance: The Knights enter Tuesday's contest with Farmingdale State at 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Skyline Conference play. Mount Saint Mary has won four of its last five matches, but saw a four match winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a 6-3 home loss to St. Joseph's-L.I.
Sophomore
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) is continuing her strong career for the Knights at the top singles position with a 6-2 mark in 2017, which includes wins in each of her last five singles contests. She has also teamed with freshman
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) at the top doubles position for four more victories to date.
Clay is putting together a strong freshman season and holds a 4-3 singles record, including an unbeaten mark in a pair of contests at the third position. Senior
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) stands at 5-2 in singles play thus far with
Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) and
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) each registering four singles wins.
A Look At The Rams: Farmingdale State heads to Newburgh on Tuesday with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-2 mark against league rivals. The Rams have won three of their last five outings, including an 8-1 road win at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday.
Cameren Jackson and Carolann La Monica pace Farmingdale State with five singles wins apiece, with La Monica and Celine Zollinger holding a 7-2 mark for the Rams at second doubles.
Scouting Hartwick: The Hawks enter Thursday's contest at 5-5 overall, but have dropped five of their last six outings. The lone win over that stretch came in a 6-3 victory over Elmira on Friday.
Heidi Rice leads Hartwick with an 8-2 record at the top singles position, while Kelly Napolitano holds an identical record at the second slot. Rice has teamed with a pair of partners at first doubles and has combined for a 6-3 record, including a 3-0 mark with Napolitano. Napolitano has teamed with three different partners to post a 7-3 doubles record through 10 matches.
Previewing Purchase: The Panthers also play three times this week, including a pair of Skyline Conference matches. Purchase opens the week against St. Joseph's-L.I. with a 4-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark against Skyline Conference opponents.
Raquelle DeCicco holds a perfect 5-0 singles record heading into the week with Ameila Rothbell, Nadia Shadi and Abigail Cuddy all posting four wins through six matches. In doubles play, Cuddy and Catherine Pasquale hold an unblemished 5-0 record at the second position heading into Tuesday's contest with the Golden Eagles.
Men's Team Back In Action: The Men's Tennis team returns to fall competition on Wednesday when it heads to Ramapo. The Knights blanked Bard in their only other contest this fall and stand at 1-0 heading into their contest at the Roadrunners.
What's Next: Saturday's match at Purchase begins a three match road swing for the Knights that includes trips to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on October 10 and Sage on October 11. The Knights then close out the regular season with home matches against Brooklyn on October 13 and Pratt on October 15.
