Newburgh, N.Y. – Following a road contest at Wilkes last Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College Swimming teams will travel for the second straight weekend when they head to the College of Staten Island on Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. non-conference dual meet with the Dolphins.
MSMC Men At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a loss at Wilkes and stand at 1-1 overall on the season. The Mount fell to the Colonels 152-97 with three different Knights scoring individual wins on the day.
Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued the strong start his season with a win for the Knights in the 1,000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 11:24.89. Ward added a second place finish for the Mount in the 100-yard freestyle race, swimming a time of 51.57 seconds.
After winning three events in the season opener against Purchase, sophomore
Michael Neugebauer (Newburgh, N.Y.) picked up a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Knights on Saturday. He touched out in a time of 1:07.99.
Sophomore
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) rounded out the trio of victories for the Knights, besting the field in the 100-yard butterfly. He swam a winning time of 2:02.66 and was followed by
Kyle Barber (Shelton, Conn.) in second place with a time of 2:18.62.
Mount Saint Mary also received strong swims on Saturday from
Philippe Noisy (New York, N.Y.) and
P.J. Ramsey (Plantsville, Conn.) who each collected second place points. Noisy placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:36.62, while Ramsey scored a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle for the Mount.
MSMC Women At A Glance: The Mount's Women's team picked up its second straight win to open the season last Saturday with a 151-79 non-conference triumph at Wilkes. The Mount won 10 events in the contest, including two each from a trio of swimmers.
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) got the Mount off to a good start, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle and adding a victory in the 100-yard freestyle race. Her distance win came in a time of 1:55.16, while her 100-yard time came in 58.74 seconds.
Katie Barber (Shelton, Conn.) picked up a pair of wins in her second collegiate race, taking the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley. She won the butterfly race in 2:32.40 and picked up first place points in the IM with a time of 2:32.09.
Marissa Catania (Rocky Hill, Conn.) continued her dominance of the breaststroke events for the Knights, scoring wins in both the 100 and 200-yard events. Her first win of the day came in a time of 1:13.50 and she followed that up with a 200-yard win in 2:44.94.
Daley O'Keefe (Glastonbury, Conn.) and
Shayla McCarroll (Glenville, N.Y.) also scored victories for the Knights, with O'Keefe winning the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:26.23 and McCarroll taking the 100-yard backstroke race in 1:08.00. McCarroll added a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, following O'Keefe with a time of 2:26.34.
The Knights started and finished the meet in strong fashion, taking first place in both relay events. The team of McCarroll, Catania,
Lauren Schroeder (Wantagh, N.Y.) and McNamee won the 200-yard medley race in 2:02.58, before the squad of McNamee,
Danielle Hughes (Oakville, Conn.), O'Keefe and Schroeder won the 800-yard freestyle race to end the day in 9:12.60.
What's Next: After two straight road meets, the Knights return to the Kaplan Pool on November 4 when they host King's (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m.
