Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team closes out the regular season Fall Schedule with a busy four match stretch. The Knights open the week at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Tuesday night before traveling to Sage on Wednesday. The fall slate closes with home non-conference matches with Brooklyn and Pratt on Friday and Sunday.
At A Glance: The Knights head to the National Tennis Center on Tuesday with a 5-6 overall record and a 2-3 mark in Skyline Conference matches. The Knights are currently tied for fourth in the league standings with the Farmingdale State, with the Mount holding the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Rams.
Mount Saint Mary has four players with at least six singles wins heading into the week, led by sophomore
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) who stands at 8-3 overall at the top position. She is 7-3 in her last 10 decisions and 4-1 against league opponents heading into Tuesday's match with the Lady Bears.
Fellow Sophomore
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) stands at 7-3 in singles play and is on a current team best three match winning streak. She is 7-3 in her last 10 outings and holds a 4-1 mark at fifth singles and a 3-2 mark at the sixth position. Vernon has won three of her five matches against league rivals heading into Tuesday's contest.
Senior
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) and freshman
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) each have six singles victories heading into the week for the Knights. Tighe is a perfect 3-0 at the fourth position, while Clay has four wins at the fourth slot for the Mount.
In doubles play, Mount Saint Mary is led by six wins at the top position from Carnovale and Clay, with Tighe and
Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) earning five victories at the second position.
Weekly Award: Clay picked up her first career weekly award on Monday when she was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week. She posted four combined victories for the Knights, including two at the top doubles position.
A Look At The Lady Bears: St. Joseph's-Brooklyn enters Tuesday's tilt at 1-6 overall and 0-5 in Skyline Conference play. St. Joseph's has lost its last five outings, including an 8-1 loss to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday.
Denise Trerotola is 5-2 for the Lady Bears at first singles and has won five of the team's nine singles decisions. Trerotola also holds one of the team's two doubles wins on the year, teaming with Valentina Velez at first doubles for a 1-2 record.
Scouting Sage: The Gators enter Wednesday's match at 9-4 overall on the season and an even 4-4 in the Empire 8. Sage has split its last four outings, picking up wins over Bard and Utica and dropping decisions to Stevens and St. John Fisher.
Samantha Montague has put together a strong season for Sage and holds an 8-5 singles record at the top flight with Rebecca Johnson pacing the team in singles wins with nine. She is 9-2 at the fourth position for Sage entering the week.
Abby Clobridge and Shanessa Mendoza hold an 8-3 record at second doubles for the Gators, with Shanice Mendoza and Lindsey Tolman matching the team lead in doubles wins with an 8-2 mark at the third slot.
Brooklyn At A Glance: The Bulldogs enter a Wednesday CUNYAC match with Hunter at 6-3 overall on the season and 3-2 in conference play. Brooklyn has won its last two outings, topping Staten Island 5-4 and sweeping York 9-0.
Previewing Pratt: The Cannoneers come to town along with men's team for a Sunday non-conference contest. The Pratt women enter a Friday match with Sarah Lawrence at 3-3 overall and winners of their last three matches.
Melanie Kania leads the Cannoneers with four singles wins, with a trio of Pratt players recording three singles victories. Kania has also teamed with Amanda Two for a trio of doubles wins at the first position.
