Kings Point, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team closed out the dual meet portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 178-89 road loss at league rival USMMA. Freshman
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) scored the team's lone win, taking the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly.
Kohlus finished a strong day for the Knights with his win in the butterfly and second place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. His win came in a time of 2:08.06 and his runner-up finishes were in 57.03 seconds and 2:13.82, respectively.
Jake Schoenherr (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and
Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each picked up a pair of second place finishes for the Knights against the Mariners. Schoenherr took the second spot in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.15 and the 100-yard freestyle in 50.51 seconds. Ward swam to second place points in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle in time of 1:51.04 and 5:11.48. He also placed third for the Knights in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.78 seconds.
Mount Saint Mary also received second place individual finishes on Saturday from
Steven Fejes (Stony Point, N.Y.) and
Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.). Fejes took the runner-up position in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:38.25, while Sagan scored second place points in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:46.75.
In the relay events, the Knights placed second in both the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle races. The team of Kohlus, Schoenherr,
Kyle Barber (Shelton, Conn.) and Ward opened the meet with a time of 1:46.99 in the medley race, while the squad of
Peter O'Malley (Yonkers, N.Y.),
Mohmmed Athar Khan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.),
Sam Kenney (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and
Alberto Gilman (New Windsor, N.Y.) swam a time of 1:49.64 in the freestyle event.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 6-7 overall on the season and to 4-2 against conference foes. Next up for the Knights is the start of the Skyline Conference Championship on January 27 at Purchase College. Events are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
