Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team got back into the win column on Friday evening with a 163-36 non-conference triumph over Bard on Senior Night. Four Knights won two events in the meet, including sophomore
Harley Illingworth (Northfield, N.J.) who set a new school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Illingworth, who was named the Skyline Conference Swimmer of the Week on Monday, topped the field in the 1,000-yard freestyle and bested the previous record by better than a second. She finished the race in a time of 11:11.08, winning the event by over a minute and topping the old mark of 11:12.68 set by Lauren Becerra on January 30, 2015.
To close out a strong swim on Friday, Illingworth finished first for the Knights in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:04.88.
Senior
Allison Sciucco (Middletown, N.Y.) turned in a strong showing on Friday in her final home meet. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.56 seconds before swimming a winning time of 1:00.61 in the 100-yard freestyle race.
Sophomore
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) and junior
Samantha McGregor (Highland Mills, N.Y.) posted two wins apiece against the Raptors. McNamee won the 100-yard individual medley in 1:07.88 before besting the field in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:20.11. McGregor took first for the Knights in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, showing respective times of 2:16.40 and 6:05.14.
Rachael Stone (Wallingford, Conn.) turned in a victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.56 and senior
Regina Zeoli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) posted a pair of second place finishes, coming home as the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.
The Knights continued their strong showings in the relay events, winning both the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle races on Friday. The team of Stone,
Danielle Hughes (Oakville, Conn.), McGregor and
Brigit Gardner (Staten Island, N.Y.) won the medley event in 2:08.25, while the quartet of
Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.), Zeoli, Sciucco and
Taylor Hollis (East Hartford, Conn.) won the freestyle event in 1:57.27.
Friday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 10-4 overall. The Knights will finish off the dual meet portion of the schedule on Saturday when they travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Meet time with the Mariners is set for 1:00 p.m.
