Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Swimming teams will close out the regular season on Friday in their home finale against Bard and Saturday afternoon when they travel to Skyline Conference rival the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Senior Night meet against Bard is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with the dual meet finale in Kings Point scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
MSMC At A Glance: The Mount Saint Mary Men's Swimming team returned to competition on January 13 at Montclair State and suffered a 120-75 loss, dropping it to 5-6 overall on the season. The Knights had five swimmers record runner-up finishes in the meet, including juniors
Kyle Barber (Shelton, Conn.),
Jake Schoenherr (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and
Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
Barber scored second place points for the Knights in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while Schoenherr and Ward took the runner-up position in the 200-yard and 50-yard freestyle, respectively. The Mount also received strong showings against the Red Hawks from newcomers
Peter O'Malley (Yonkers, N.Y.) and
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) who took second in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard freestyle races.
Final Home Meet: A pair of men's swimmers will competing at the Kaplan Center pool for the final time on Friday, as
Steven Fejes (Stony Point, N.Y.) and graduate student
Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.) will be recognized on Senior Night.
MSMC Women At A Glance: The Knights saw a seven meet winning streak stopped on January 13 at Montclair State following a 113-86 road loss to the Red Hawks that dropped the team to 9-4 overall on the season.
Three Mount Saint Mary swimmers picked up second place finishes in the meet, including
Harley Illingworth (Northfield, N.J.) and
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) who collected a pair of runner-up finishes.
Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) turned in a strong swim with a second place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Ilingworth, who was named the Skyline Conference Swimmer of the Week on Monday, posted runner-up showings in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Her time of 2:22.03 in the IM race marked the third fastest time in the conference this season.
McNamee continued her strong season at the Mount with second place finishes in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races.
Final Home Meet: The women's squad will honor four seniors on Friday who will swim in their final home meet for the Knights.
Amanda Bocekci (Paramus, N.J.), Daigle,
Allison Sciucco (Middletown, N.Y.) and
Regina Zeoli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) will be recognized during Friday's meet with Bard.
What's Next: Following Saturday meet at USMMA, the Knights will prepare for the Skyline Conference Championship that will be held January 27-28 at Purchase.
