Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team continued its 2016 fall season on Wednesday with a tight 5-4 loss to visiting Rutgers-Newark. Senior
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) and sophomore
Chris McGorty (Bellemore, N.Y.) picked up singles wins for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary got off to a good start in the contest after taking two of the three doubles matches. Anastasi and McGorty posted an impressive 8-3 win at the top position and a pair of newcomers,
Kyle McIntyre (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and
Joshua Jacobs (Beacon, N.Y.), outlasted their opponents from Rutgers-Newark at the third position, 8-6.
Anastasi went on to cruise to a 6-0, 6-0 first singles win for the Knights and McGorty picked up a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at the second position.
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) went three sets at the third position, but eventually fell to Richard Nguyen.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-3 this fall.
