Newburgh, N.Y. – Playing its second fall match of the 2016-17 season, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team was nipped by visiting Bard on Thursday by a score of 5-4. Senior
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) won for the second time in as many outings against the Raptors.
Anastasi is the only player in the Mount lineup to not suffer a loss through the first two matches of the season. He dispatched Keillor Mose from Bard by scores of 6-4, 6-3 at the top singles position to move to 2-0 on the young season.
Sophomore
Chris McGorty (Bellemore, N.Y.) got into the win column for the first time this season at the second singles position with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory and freshman
Joshua Jacobs (Beacon, N.Y.) earned his first career win at the sixth position with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph.
Bard was able to win two of the three doubles contests on Thursday, taking the first and third matches to get off to a good start in the match. The Knights got a victory at the second position with the duo of
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) and
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) earning an 8-5 victory of the Mount.
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-2 overall on the season. The Knights will continue the fall campaign on September 28 when it plays host to Rutgers-Newark. Match time with the Scarlet Raiders is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
