Newburgh, N.Y. – Sophomore
Cindy Connoly (Walden, N.Y.) earned her 11
th win of the season in the circle and belted her fourth home run of the season on Friday as the Mount Saint Mary College Softball team edged Farmingdale State 4-3 in nine innings on Friday afternoon. The Knights will move on to the winner's bracket to face Mount Saint Vincent at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Knights put two runners on with one out in the home half of the third.
Shannon Sommer (Brewster, N.Y.) reached on an error and
Amanda Almodovar (Chester, N.Y.) singled in front of Connoly who drove a three-run home run out to right field to push the Mount in front 3-1.

Farmingdale State answered back with two runs in the top of the fifth when Ally Mancini singled and was followed by a two-run blast from Meagan Anderson to knot the score at 3-3.

The Knights had a chance to retake the lead in the fifth when they loaded bases with one out, but Farmingdale State starter Jaxie Collard got consecutive pop ups on the infield to end the threat. Each team went down in order in each of their next two at-bats.

Farmingdale's chance in the extra frame came following a lead-off double from Allison Dailey in the top of the eighth and put runners on second and third with two-outs before Connoly recorded a strikeout to keep the game tied at 3-3.

Farmingdale State would go down in order in the ninth before the Knights took advantage of two Ram errors in the home half of the inning to score the victory. After a one-out error and walk from
Nicolette Moustouka (Seaford, N.Y.), the Mount got a single from Sommer and ended the game when
Brianne Germain (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) crossed following the second error of the frame.

Mount Saint Mary was outhit in the game 7-5, with Sommer pacing the offense after going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Sommer, Almodovar and Connoly all finished with a hit and a run. Connoly's only hit was the home run driving in three runs.

Anderson finished 2-for-4 with a run and two driven in for Farmingdale State with Marietta Silliman also posting a hit and a run. Dailey and Meghan Acton each doubled for the Rams.

Connoly improved to 11-2 on the season after working her team leading ninth complete game of the season. She struck out eight and walked two in the game, allowing three runs on seven hits. Collard suffered the loss and fell to 15-12 on the season, surrendering two earned runs on five hits.

Friday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 20-10 overall on the season. The Knights continue their quest for a Skyline Championship Saturday morning against Mount Saint Vincent.

Game Notes: Connoly moved to 21-8 in her career…The Knights moved to 3-0 against Farmingdale State in 2016 and to 13-21 against the Rams since the start of the 2004 season…Since 2004 the Mount is 1-7 against Farmingdale State in the Skyline Conference Championship.
