Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team picked up its fourth straight win on Monday night with an impressive 9-0 league win over St. Joseph's-L.I. Three of the four Mount Saint Mary wins in conference play thus far have come by 9-0 scores.
Junior
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.), who was named a conference Co-Player of the Week earlier on Monday, picked up his fourth straight singles win on Monday and moved to 6-3 on the season in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 at the top spot in the Mount Saint Mary lineup.
Playing at second singles for the first time in 2016, senior
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win for the Knights and was followed by a win at the third position from freshman
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.). McGoty was tabbed the Skyline Rookie of the Week on Monday before going on to post a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory at his first match at third singles. The win pushes his singles record to 8-2 in 2016.
Senior
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles and was followed by a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win from
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) at the fifth position.
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) finished off the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
In doubles play, Anastasi and
Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) scored their third win as partners with an 8-1 win at the top spot, with Witke and McGorty teaming up for an 8-2 win at the second position.
Joel Rodriguez (Hackensack, N.J.) and
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) posted an identical 8-2 win at third doubles for the Knights.
Monday's pushes Mount Saint Mary to 7-3 overall on the season and to 4-1 against conference opponents. Next up for the Knights is a road non-conference match at Western Connecticut. Match time in Danbury, Conn. is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
