Mount Saint Mary Losses Non-Conference Set With Manchester

Ft. Myers, Fla. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team continued its Florida trip on Wednesday, dropping a non-conference set with Manchester by scores of 2-1 and 10-0. Sophomore Cindy Connoly (Walden, N.Y.) struck out 10 batters in game one and Shannon Sommer (Brewster, N.Y.) picked up two hits in game two.
 
Mount Saint Mary got on the board first in Wednesday's opener, plating a run in the bottom of the second inning. Kathryn Eiler (Merrick, N.Y.) drove in the Mount's only run of the day with a one-out single that delivered Taylor Canto (Walden, N.Y.).
 
The Knights' lead would be short lived as the Spartans rallied for their two runs in the top half of the third frame. Kate Skeens and MacKenzie Williams each drove in runs with singles in the frame to close out the scoring in the game.
 
Mount Saint Mary outhit Manchester in the game 7-5 with seven different players collecting base hits. Canto finished 1-for-2 with a run, with Eiler going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
 
Connoly fell to 3-1 on the season, working her second complete game of the year. She allowed two runs on five hits and picked up 10 strikeouts. Anna Schillinger earned the win, allowing one run on seven hits.
 
In game two, Manchester got all the scoring it needed in the first inning when it plated five runs. Laurren Ladwig drove in two runs with a double and Miranda Boggs plated two more runs with a single in the big first inning.
 
The Spartans closed out the win with five more tallies in their final at-bat, with Boggs driving in a third run. Emilee Liston picked up two RBI with a single in the inning for Manchester.
 
Sommer closed out game two 2-for-3 at the plate, as the Knights were outhit 11-6. Boggs finished 2-for-2 with three RBI for the Spartans and was one of three players to drive in at least two runs in the game.
 
Senior Victoria Goldbach (Middle Village, N.Y.) suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season, allowing 11 hits and striking out four. Williams collected the win for Manchester, spinning a six hit shutout.
 
At 5-4 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will close out its southern trip on Thursday with single games against Wooster and St. Olaf.
