Clifton, N.J. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team opened the 2016 spring season on Tuesday with an impressive 9-0 road victory at John Jay.
Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) and
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) each posted 6-0, 6-0 singles wins.
The Knights got off to a 3-0 lead on Tuesday with three convincing doubles wins. Anastasi and
Chris McGorty (Bellemore, N.Y.) posted an 8-2 victory at the first position, while Dimmie and Terry teamed up for an 8-3 trump at the second position.
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) and
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) completed the doubles sweep for the Mount with an 8-1 victory at third doubles.
Dimmie closed out a strong match for Mount Saint Mary with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win at the second position, with Terry winning by the same 6-0, 6-0 score at the fifth spot.
Matt Anastasi (Saslisbury Hills, N.Y.) collected a 6-1, 6-0 victory for Mount Saint Mary at first singles, with Borden and McGorty following with triumphs at the third and fourth positions. Borden took a 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 victory and McGorty cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win. Jaros rounded out the win with a 7-5, 6-0 win for the Knights at the sixth singles position.
At 2-2 overall, Mount Saint Mary will continue the 2016 season on March 29 with a home non-conference match against Berkeley. Match time is set for 6:00 p.m.
