Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team opened the new year on Friday with a 146-80 non-conference home loss to visiting Marywood. Sophomore
Kyle Barber (Shelton, Conn.) picked up the team's lone individual win of the meet in the 100-yard butterfly.
Barber secured the Mount's only individual victory of the night in the late stages of the meet, posting a time of 57.72 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly. Barber finished off a strong meet with second place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.
Senior
Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored second place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:08.30 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.28. Sagan also picked up a third place finish for the Knights, touching out in a time of 11:16.03 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Senior
Sam Watson (Groton, Conn.) also turned in a strong showing on Friday, taking second in both the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:09.19 and the 100-yard backstroke in 58.52 seconds.
Jake Schoenherr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) collected a second place finish for the Knights in the 200-yard freestyle and took third in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races.
Mount Saint Mary's only other victory of the contest came in the opening event with the team of Watson, Sagan, Barber and Schoenherr posting a winning time of 1:47.13 in the 200-yard medley relay race.
Friday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 3-5 overall on the season. The Knights will be right back in the pool on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Elms College. Meet time in Chicopee, Mass. Is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
