NEWBURGH, N.Y. – An injury suffered by one of the Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team's (5-8) players led to a pair of forfeits and eventually a 5-4 loss to Western Connecticut State University (3-6) Thursday evening on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts.
Knight senior
Shane McLoughlin (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was injured during the No. 3 doubles match on Thursday, forcing him and senior
Joel Rodriguez (Hackensack, N.J.) to retire and drop the match. Due to the injury, the Knights were also forced to forfeit McLoughlin's flight-five singles spot, causing them to lose two points right off the bat.

Bryan Frank (West Babylon, N.Y.) defeated Benjamin Cortez and Daniel Winter, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Senior
Connor Bean (Glenville, N.Y.) and junior
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) picked up the win at first doubles, 8-6, over Jason Hipona and Romney Tiru.
Rodriguez suffered a 6-2, 6-3 defeat to Jeffrey Hensley at No. 6 singles. Junior
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) then defeated Winter at third singles, 6-4, 6-3. Freshman
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) played a thrilling No. 4 match with Adam Howard, needing a tiebreaker to settle the third set. It was Howard who came out on top in the end, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8). Bean took down Jason Hipona at flight one, 6-1, 7-5. No. 2 singles decided the match in the end, and Tiru picked up the win for West Conn over Borden, 7-6, 6-4, to give the visitors the victory.
Thursday's match was the season finale for the Knights. They fell Wednesday evening to top-seeded Yeshiva University in the Skyline Conference Championship Semifinals. Yeshiva will face off with No. 3 Farmingdale State College in the Skyline Finals after the Rams defeated No. 2 Purchase College, 5-1, Thursday evening in their semifinal matchup.
