Yeshiva StatisticsEDGEWATER, N.J. - The No. 4-seeded Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team takes on No. 1 seed and defending conference champion Yeshiva University Wednesday evening in the semifinal round of the 2015 Skyline Conference Championship Tournament. The Knights and Maccabees squared off in the 2014 Skyline Conference Championship finals, in which Yeshiva came out on top, 5-1.
WHERE AND WHEN?The Maccabees will host the Knights at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, N.J. Wednesday, April 22, at 8 p.m.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTSThe Knights have an overall record of 5-6, and went 3-3 against the Skyline Conference to earn the No. 4 seed in the Skyline Playoffs. New head coach
Eric Sturgis took over the program during the spring semester, leading the team to a 5-5 mark.
Freshman
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) leads the Knights this spring with a 3-2 record against Skyline opponents. Juniors
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.), and senior
Bryan Frank (West Babylon, N.Y.) have each gone 3-3 against conference opponents in singles play.
The doubles duos of Witke and freshman
Connor Gargan (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Frank and Jaros have each gone 3-1 in Skyline play this season.
SCOUTING THE MACCABEESThe defending champions have had another strong season with a 10-3 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark against the Skyline Conference.
The Maccabee singles players have a combined record of 59-19 this season, and have gone 31-5 against Skyline Conference teams. No. 1 player David Papis Elon is a perfect 10-0 on the season and 4-0 against conference competitors. Dmitri Lebedyev is 5-0 against Skyline teams, and four other Maccabees have yet to lose against a conference foe.
Despite many different doubles pairings throughout the season, the Maccabees have lost just one doubles match against the Skyline Conference (17-1), and have gone 30-8 overall in doubles action. The pairings of Papis Elon/Igal Mostkov and Charles Saka/Lebedyev have each gone 3-0 in Skyline doubles play this season.
LAST TIME THEY METThe Knights and Maccabees faced off on back on April 14 at the Binghamton Racquet Club. The Maccabees picked up a 9-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary in a rematch of last season's Skyline Title match.
AROUND THE CONFERENCENo. 2 Purchase College and No. 3 Farmingdale State College will play at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, at Purchase to determine which of the other two Skyline Playoff contenders will advance to this weekend's championship match. Purchase went 5-1 against the Skyline this season, while Farmingdale State earned a 4-2 record. Purchase defeated Farmingdale State, 5-4, back on April 15.
