EDGEWATER, N.J. – Despite a valiant effort, the Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (5-7) fell to No. 1-seeded Yeshiva University (11-3) by a score of 5-1 in the Skyline Conference Championship semifinals Wednesday evening at the Binghamton Racquet Club, eliminating the Knights from the postseason.
The Maccabees advance to the Skyline Conference Championship finals, where they will look to repeat as Skyline Champions. They will take on the winner of No. 2 Purchase College and No. 3 Farmingdale State College, which will take place on Thursday, April 23, at 4 p.m. at Purchase.

Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) and freshman
Connor Gargan (Rocky Point, N.Y.) turned in an incredibly gusty performance and upset David Papis Elon and Adam Wannon for a thrilling 9-8 final. However, the Maccabees picked up wins in the other two doubles matches for a 2-1 advantages after doubles play. Charles Saka and Steven Jemal defeated junior
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.), 8-2, at No. 2 doubles. Dmitri Lebedyev and Eitan Rudansky came out on top in the third doubles match, 8-0, over seniors
Joel Rodriguez (Hackensack, N.J.) and
Shane McLoughlin (Washingtonville, N.Y.).
The Maccabees picked up quick victories at flights one, three and five, reaching the five points necessary for victory in the postseason. The other three flights were played competitively, but all went unfinished once the victory became official for Yeshiva.
The Knights will look to conclude their season on a positive note when they host Western Connecticut State University tomorrow, April 23, on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts. The match will kick off at 4:30 p.m. as part of a men's and women's tennis doubleheader at Mount Saint Mary. The women's match is set to get started at 5:30 p.m.
