PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (5-2, 3-0 Skyline) inched closer to clinching a Skyline Conference Championship Tournament berth with a 6-3 victory over St. Joseph's College (L.I.) (1-5, 0-2 Skyline) Saturday afternoon at the SJC Outdoor Complex.
The Knights' No. 1 doubles team of senior
Connor Bean (Glenville, N.Y.) and junior
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) dropped its match to Matthew Reed and Thomas O'Keefe, 8-2. The Knights bounced back to take the last two doubles points when junior
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman
Connor Gargan (Rocky Point, N.Y.) picked up an 8-3 win at second doubles over Stephen Fox and Denzil Charles, and when the No. 3 duo of freshman
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) and senior
Bryan Frank (West Babylon, N.Y.) beat Matt Dioguardo and Brian Merle, 8-2.
Bean fell at No. 1 singles to Reed, 6-0, 6-4. Witke picked up the win at flight-two singles over O'Keefe, 6-3, 6-1. Borden also grabbed at win at No. 3 over Fox, 6-3, 6-4. Gargan fell to Charles at flight four, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Frank picked up the comeback victory at fifth singles over Dioguardio, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Jaros closed out singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Merle at flight six.
The Knights get back to work quickly, as they host Purchase College in Skyline Conference action at the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts on Sunday, April 12. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
