NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (4-2, 2-0 Skyline) won its second Skyline Conference match of the spring, and moved to 4-1 overall under new head coach
Eric Sturgis, with an 8-1 victory over The Sage Colleges (1-3, 1-2 Skyline) Wednesday evening on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts.
"I am very happy with the way we played again," said Sturgis. "To be 2-0 in the conference going into to Easter Break is all I could ask for."
Freshman
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) and senior
Bryan Frank (West Babylon, N.Y.) started the day with an 8-0 win at third doubles over Sage's Mark Castillo and Melissa Estremera. Freshman
Connor Gargan (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and junior
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Robert Scott and Troy Hansen. Senior
Connor Bean (Glenville, N.Y.) and junior
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) completed the doubles sweep for the Knights with an 8-4 defeat of Kirsten Ackerman and Gerard Beaudin at the top flight.
Senior
Shane McLoughlin (Washingtonville, N.Y.) kicked off singles play with a No. 6 victory over Estremera, 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles was next to finish, seeing Borden shut out Scott, 6-0, 6-0. Frank defeated Hansen at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Witke took down Beaudin at second singles, 6-2, 6-0. Jaros picked up a win at flight five over Castillo, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4.). The match finished up with Sage's only point, as Ackerman defeated Bean in a highly competitive match, 6-3, 3-6, 12-10.
The Knights take a break from Skyline play as they host Rutgers University-Newark on Tuesday, April 7, in their next match. The Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts will host the non-conference action beginning at 5 p.m.
