NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (2-1) earned a non-conference victory over John Jay College (0-1) by a score of 7-1 Tuesday afternoon on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts.
Seniors
Bryan Frank (West Babylon, N.Y.) and
Shane McLoughlin (Washingtonville, N.Y.) kicked off doubles play with a win at No. 3 over John Jay's Zag Kimpolo and Marco Guzman by a score of 8-0. Juniors
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) then grabbed the win at No. 1 doubles over Luis Chirinos and Rick Mills, 8-4. Senior
Connor Bean (Glenville, N.Y.) and freshman
Connor Gargan (Rocky Point, N.Y.) then beat Oscar Wu and Jowel Ahmed at flight two, 8-3, to earn the doubles sweep for the Knights.
Due to only three courts being available for play on Tuesday, all six singles matches were played with pro-set scoring (first to eight). Freshman
Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) kicked off singles play with an 8-0 victory at No. 6 over Guzman. Frank then won at No. 5 singles over Kimpolo by the same 8-0 score to give the Knights the five points necessary for victory.
Bean pushed the Knight lead to 6-0 with a tight 8-6 victory at No. 1 singles over Chirinos. Witke fell to Mills at No. 2 singles, 8-5, but Gargan took the win at fourth singles over Ahmed, 8-2. The No. 3 singles match between Borden and Wu was not played.
The Knights next play on Tuesday, March 24, in a road match against Brooklyn College. The match is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
