Newburgh, N.Y. – Led by two individual wins from freshmen
Nicole Gautieri (Coral Springs, Fla.) and
Harley Illingworth (Northfield, N.J.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team opened its home schedule on Saturday with a 131-71 non-conference victory over visiting King's (Pa.).
Gautieri swept the sprint freestyle events for the Knights on Saturday, posting wins in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. Her win in the 50-yard event came in a time of 25.77 seconds. She went on to take the 100-yard race in a time of 56.52 seconds. Gautieri was followed in both events by
Lauren Schroeder (Wantagh, N.Y.) who showed times of 27.01 and 58.52 seconds, respectively.
Illingworth also continued the strong start to her collegiate career with wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard backstroke. The IM victory came in a time of 2:22.85, before she bested the field in the backstroke in a time of 2:19.68. Junior
Regina Zeoli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) came home third in the backstroke with a time of 2:31.04.
Mount Saint Mary also received victories on Saturday from freshman
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) and sophomore
Marissa Catania (Rocky Hill, Conn.). McNamee took first in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:06.92, while Catania topped everyone in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:38.93.
Rachel Stone (Wallingford, Conn.) posted a second place finish for the Knights in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:04.37, with
Samantha McGregor (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and
Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) also picking up second place finishes. McGregor posted a time of 2:39.18 in the 200-yard freestyle with Daigle finishing the 500-yard freestyle in 5:44.13.
The Knights also had strong showings in the relay events, winning both the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle races. The team of Illingworth, Catania,
Kira Adler (Shelton, Conn.) and Gautieri opened the day with a time of 4:19.01 in the medley race, with the quartet of McNamee, Adler, Schroeder and Daigle closing the day with a time of 3:59.41 in the freestyle event.
At 2-1 overall, Mount Saint Mary will be back in the pool again on November 13 when it hosts Purchase and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Meet time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
