PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College swimming teams turned in a big day on Saturday, as the women's team swept both the College of Mount Saint Vincent and St. Joseph's College (L.I.) in a double-dual meet by scores of 121-44 and 113-74, respectively, and the men's team defeated Mount Saint Vincent, 101-23. The women improve to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the Skyline, while the men jump to 5-4 with a 3-1 conference mark.
The women opened the day with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay. The foursome of freshman
Kate Bell (Wilton, Conn.), freshman
Marissa Catania (Rocky Hill, Conn.), sophomore
Regina Zeoli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and junior
Lauren Becerra (White Plains, N.Y.) swam a first-place time of 4:29.72, 11 seconds ahead of the next team.
Zeoli went on to pick up a victory in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2:36.47 and winning after a comeback in the final half-length of the race. Becerra grabbed an individual win in the 200-yard individual medley, topping the field with a time of 2:32.38. Catania also earned a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 2:46.31 to blow her competition away. Sophomore
Allison Sciucco (Middletown, N.Y.) won her two individual events, coming out on top in the 50-yard freestyle (27.23) and the 100-yard freestyle (59.82).
Like the women, the men's team opened the day with a win in the 400-yard medley relay. Junior

Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.) combined for a time of 4:11.15.
Junior
Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.) had a big day, winning three individual events to pick up significant points for the Knights. He started with the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 11:25.43. He then won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.00. Finally, he touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:36.86.
Ward later swam 5:21.44 to finish first in the 500-yard freestyle, the best time of any Knight this season in the event. Watson won the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:55.30. Verrillo swam 2:19.19 in the 200-yard butterfly to pick up an individual win of his own.
Both Knights teams will next compete against SUNY College at Old Westbury on Monday, Jan. 19. The start time for Monday's meet has been moved up to 1 p.m. instead of the original start time of 3 p.m.
