Match ResultsNEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (7-3, 2-0 Skyline) took sole possession of first place in the Skyline Conference after taking down previously undefeated Yeshiva University (7-1, 3-1 Skyline), 5-4, Sunday afternoon at the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts.
The Knights won at third doubles when sophomore
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and graduate student
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) defeated Jeremy Seftel and Charles Saka, 8-5. Yeshiva took the flight one doubles match, but the Mount took the edge in doubles play when sophomore
Mike Balokoz (Milford, Conn.) and freshman
Gavin McNulty (Darien, Conn.) won at No. 2, 8-6, over Dmitri Lebedyev and Robby Rubin.
The Knights lost at flights one, two and three in singles play, putting them in a 4-2 hole and leaving Yeshiva needing just one win from the bottom half of its lineup. The Knights' fourth, fifth and sixth flight singles players stepped it up and came out victorious to give the Knights the 5-4 win. Junior
Connor Bean (Glenville, N.Y.) took down Rubin at No. 6, 6-4, 6-3, and then McNulty held serve to win the final game of his No. 5 match with Saka to earn the 6-3, 6-4 win. Witke clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles over Jeremy Seftel.
The Knights return to action tomorrow, April 8, when they host Marywood University at the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
