Match ResultsNEWBURGH, N.Y. – No. 2-seeded Yeshiva University (13-2) took home its first-ever Skyline Conference Championship after defeating top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College (13-4), 5-1, Sunday afternoon in the Skyline Conference Championship finals, hosted by the Mount. The Maccabees will make the school's first appearance in an NCAA Tournament in any sport.
The Knights won the previous matchup this season, taking home a 5-4 win after a hard-fought battle on April 6 that helped the Knights reach a perfect 6-0 Skyline regular season for the first time in program history.
The Knights took the initial lead in the match with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and graduate student
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) defeated Charles Saka and Avi Seidman to put the Knights up 1-0 in the championship match. However, Yeshiva took the next two points in the match after coming back from early deficits in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the 2-1 lead into singles play.
Yeshiva picked up wins from Igal Mostkov at No. 1 singles, Jeremy Seftel at flight four and Dmitri Lebedyev at second singles, in that order, to reach the five points necessary to clinch the match.
Yeshiva's Igal Mostkov, the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, was named the Skyline Conference Championship's most valuable player.
The Knights see their season end after falling one win shy of its first Skyline title since 2008 and a win short of the program record of 14 wins in a single season. Senior
Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) graduates with the program records in career doubles wins (43) and career combined wins (79). He and junior
Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) were named to the 2014 All-Skyline First and Second Teams, respectively.
