Match ResultsFARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (6-3, 1-0 Skyline) cleared a big hurdle in their run for the Skyline Conference Championship on Wednesday, defeating three-time defending champion Farmingdale State College (3-4, 1-2 Skyline), 7-2. The Rams had won the previous eight matchups between the two conference rivals heading into Wednesday's contest.
The Knights swept doubles play to kick off the match with a 3-0 lead. Sophomore
Mike Balokoz (Milford, Conn.) and freshman
Gavin McNulty (Darien, Conn.) picked up an 8-5 victory at flight two over Kevin Palcios and Marvin Beaubrun, while sophomore
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and graduate student
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) defeated Brian Heinlein and Cajetan Ferrao, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles. Senior
Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) and junior
Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) capped off the sweep with a comeback win at No. 1, taking down Tyler Danzy and Judd Bahoui, 8-5.
Bean grabbed the win at No. 6 over Ferrao, 6-2, 6-3, to grab the first singles point for the Knights. Witke was the next Knights to finish with a singles victory, taking down Jimmy Lopez, 7-5, 6-4, at flight four to clinch the victory. Dimmie won a hard fought battle with Palacios at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 10-8, and McNulty helped close things out with a gritty 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 10-7 win at No. 5.
The Knights next play on Friday, April 4, when they host Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham in a non-conference match on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts. The match will begin at 4 p.m. and will help the Knights prepare for a crucial match with Skyline Conference leader Yeshiva University, which will take place at the Mount on Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
