KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (4-3) closed out the final day of its spring break trip to Florida with a split, falling to Colby-Sawyer College, 7-2, early in the day, and then bouncing back to take down Penn State Berks, 8-1, Thursday evening.
Sophomore
Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was involved in the two wins for the Knights against Colby-Sawyer. He picked up a doubles victory at flight three with graduate student
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.), 9-7, over Matt Plouffe and Will Triebel, and then came out on top in his No. 4 singles match against Dean Boodakian, 7-5, 0-6, 10-6.
Witke picked up wins in both of those slots in the later match as well to contribute to the Knights' 8-1 win over Penn State Berks. This time, he won his No. 3 doubles match in a partnership with sophomore
Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.). Senior
Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) and junior
Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) took care of business at No. 1 doubles, and sophomore
Mike Balokoz (Milford, Conn.) and freshman
Gavin McNulty (Darien, Conn.) grabbed a win at flight two. All three Knights doubles pairs won their respective matches by a score of 8-0.
Dimmie grabbed a win at No. 2 singles over Volan Nnapalle, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-3. Balokoz, McNulty and Ryan won at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles, respectively, all by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
The Knights return home from spring break this weekend to prepare for their next match, which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18. They will take on Baruch College at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
