Knights Grab Fall Victory over Bard

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team (1-0) took a 5-4 fall-season victory over Bard College (0-1) on Thursday in its only dual match before the spring season.

The Knights took an early lead in Thursday's match, taking wins in two of the three doubles flights. Senior Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) and junior Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) defeated Bard's Kevin McDonald and Alexandre Khondji, 8-5, to take the top flight. Sophomore Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Bryan Frank (West Babylon, N.Y.) won their No. 3 doubles match, 8-5, over Philip Poznansky and Isaac Lertola.

The Mount took the three singles wins it needed to clinch the match at flights one, three and six. Jacob took a 6-3, 6-4 decision over McDonald at the top flight. Sophomore Mike Balokoz (Milford, Conn.) dropped Poznansky at flight three, 6-0, 1-6, 6-1. Sophomore Joe Borden (Newburgh, N.Y.) rounded up the win with a victory over Lertola at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

The Knights do not return to action until the spring season, which begins with their spring break trip to Florida from March 8-15.
