Knights Knock Off Bard, Finish Regular Season at 13-5

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College wrapped up a successful regular season with a 7-2, non-conference win over Bard College on Tuesday evening in Newburgh.  The Knights finish 13-5 overall, while the Raptors drop to 4-9.

The Mount claimed two of the three doubles matches to kick off the night.  Junior Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) and sophomore Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) turned in a solid effort at number one, rolling to an 8-1 victory.  Sophomore Conor Merryman (Marlboro, N.Y.) and freshman Dan Witke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) served well in an 8-5 decision at third doubles.

In singles action, Jacob cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at the top of the lineup.  Freshman Mike Balokoz (Milford, Conn.) overcame a slow start to record a 7-5, 6-1 win at number two, while Witke added a 6-1, 7-5 decision at number three.  The singles win was Witke's 15th singles win of the season, tying the school record for singles wins in a season set by Danny Giordano in 2008.

Merryman collected a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number four and sophomore Connor Bean (Glenville, N.Y.) rounded out the Mount's wins with a 6-3, 7-5 decision at number six.

The team's lone senior, Bryan Pujol (East Rockaway, N.Y.), was honored in a mid-match ceremony.

The Mount opens play in the Skyline Conference Tournament on Thursday.  The second-seeded Knights will host third-seeded Purchase in the semifinals at 5:00 p.m. in Newburgh.
