Diving Does Women’s Swimming In; Men Fall As Well to William Paterson

Meet Results

WAYNE, N.J. – With diving spotting host William Paterson University a 26-point cushion, the Mount Saint Mary College women's swimming team (4-3) was unable to defeat the Pioneer women (8-1), falling 122-103 in Wightman Pool. The Mount men (3-4) also fell on Saturday, dropping a 121-81 decision to the Pioneer men (6-1) in a non-conference dual meet.

The Mount women, who do not have a diving facility on campus, and therefore do not field divers at competitions, were not able to overcome the 26-point total picked up by the two Pioneer divers that picked up the standard first- and second-place scores of nine and four points on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.

The Knight women fared well in the swimming events, earning four individual victories and a top finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Junior Meghan Seaman (Staten Island, N.Y.) touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:54.28, and then freshman Kira Adler (Shelton, Conn.) followed with a top finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:09.53. Freshman Regina Zeoli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) took second in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:10.41.

Freshman Allison Sciucco (Middletown, N.Y.) grabbed the Knights' third-straight victory with a time of 26.99 in the 50-yard freestyle. Their next victory did not come until late in the meet when sophomore Lauren Becerra (White Plains, N.Y.) took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:39.47. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sciucco, Seaman, freshman Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) and Becerra closed out the day with a winning time of 1:53.12.

The Mount men got off to a rocky start, but were able to pick up a large chunk of points in the final four races of the meet. Sophomore Sam Watson (Groton, Conn.) earned first-place points in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:01.34, while senior Conor Dowd (Massapequa, N.Y.) got another nine points with a time of 5:43.90 in the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Ryan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y.) earned another nine points with a time of 1:10.60 in the 100-yard breaststroke. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Joseph Gwillym (Pine Bush, N.Y.), senior Mark Bohlinger (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), freshman Steven Fejes (Stony Point, N.Y.) and freshman Camilo Gonzalez (Elmont, N.Y.) grabbed 11 points at 1:43.14 to close out the meet.

Saturday's meet was the last of the 2013 calendar year for the Knights. They will next swim on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Elms College. That meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Cichopee, Mass.
