Swimming Sweeps Double Dual Meet Against Sarah Lawrence and Brooklyn

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College swimming teams each picked up a pair of wins in a double-dual meet at Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday. The men (3-2) defeated Brooklyn College (0-5), 136-64, and the Sarah Lawrence men (3-1), 108-81. The Mount women (3-2) took down the Brooklyn women (2-4), 134-67, and the Sarah Lawrence women (3-1), 117-84.

The men picked up big points in the 1650-yard freestyle, as sophomore Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.) took the top spot with a time of 21:02.69, and sophomore Sean Sullivan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took second with a time of 21:34.83. Junior Ryan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y.) followed with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.15.

Junior Jason Lorch (Plainview, N.Y.) and freshman Joseph Gwillym (Pine Bush, N.Y.) took first and second, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 24.70 and 25.52, respectively. Later, senior Conor Dowd (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Sagan finished 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle event with times of 5:38.74 and 6:05.78, respectively.

The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Sam Watson (Groton, Conn.), Lorch, Sullivan and freshman Camilo Gonzalez (Elmont, N.Y.) were victorious with a time of 3:49.41.

The women were also successful at the 1650-yard freestyle, as sophomore Lauren Becerra (White Plains, N.Y.) and junior Meghan Seaman (Staten Island, N.Y.) took the top two spots with times of 19:24.40 and 19:54.06. The Knights followed with the top three finishers in the 200-yard freestyle. Freshman Kira Adler (Shelton, Conn.) took first with a time of 2:07.10, freshman Regina Zeoli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was next at 2:12.00 and then freshman Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) finished third at 2:14.23.

Once again the Knights took the top two spots, this time in the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Allison Sciucco (Middletown, N.Y.) was first with a time of 27.65, barely edging out teammate junior Danielle Rodriguez (Highland, N.Y.), who swam a time of 27.96. Rodriguez returned the favor to Sciucco later, taking the top slot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.40. Sciucco was right behind in second with a time of 1:01.14.

Zeoli grabbed a victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:24.45, and was followed by Becerra, who swam a time of 2:29.35. Seaman and Daigle took first and second in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:47.18 and 5:56.97, respectively.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Becerra, Adler, Seaman and Sciucco, which has been quite successful to open the season, dominated the event on Saturday with a time of 4:03.29, more than 25 seconds better than the next relay team.

The Knights next swim at the Diamond City Invitational, hosted by King's College (Pa.) from Saturday, Nov. 23, to Sunday, Nov. 24. Both day's events are set to begin at 9 a.m.
