NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College men's and women's swim teams were victorious at their senior night swim meet. The women beat the Devils, 112-66, and the men won, 102-82. Three seniors were recognized for their efforts:
Kassie Kayal (Wayne, N.J.),
Rachel Johnson (Levittown, N.Y.) and
Megan Pierce (Moriches, N.Y.).
The women continue to improve the season record with numerous first place finishes. Freshman
Lauren Becerra (White Plains, N.Y.) took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.41 and earned a close second in the 100 freestyle in 59.53. Sophomore
Danielle Rodriguez (Highland, N.Y.) earned first in the 50 freestyle clocking 28.40. The Knights finished one, two three in the 200 IM with senior
Kassie Kayal (Wayne, N.J.) leading the pack with a time of 2:37.06, followed by freshman
Sandy Behre (Ogdensburg, N.J.) in 2:44.61 and sophomore
Sarah Kelleher (Poughquag, N.Y.) in third with 2:57.98.
Junior
Alissa Keyes touched first in the 100 butterfly at 1:15.12 followed by sophomore
Tara Kayal in 1:24.92 and Kelleher took third clocking 1:29.29. Sophomore
Meghan Seaman (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:13.24 and in the 100 freestyle she swam 11:56.31.The first place 200 medley relay team was made up of Becerra, Behre, Keyes and Rodriguez which earned a time of 2:14.01.
Numerous Knights helped to lift the men's team to victory. Freshman
Sean Sullivan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took first in the 1000 freestyle, beating his opponent by almost a minute, with a time of 11:56.42. Sullivan also took first in the 500 freestyle clocking 5:47.58 and second in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.58. Freshman
Sam Watson (Groton, C.T.) earned first in two events, the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.63 and the 100 backstroke in 1:01.69. Sophomore
Jason Lorch (Plainview, N.Y.) also touched first in two events. In the 50 freestyle Lorch clocked 24.36 and in the 100 freestyle, 53.74. Junior
Conor Dowd (Massapequa, N.Y.) took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.94 and claimed a victory in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.68.
The Knights take on Mount Saint Vincent and Old Westbury January 19 at 12 p.m. in Old Westbury N.Y.
