Women Edge Elms, Men Defeated

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's swim team had a strong showing in today's meet, beating Elms College, 114-88, while the men fell to the Blazers, 105-54.

Winter training proved beneficial for the Knights in their first meet of 2013. Junior Alissa Keyes (Trumbull, C.T.) had a stellar performance earning two first place finishes. In the 200 butterfly Keyes beat her competitor by almost 2 seconds with a time of 2:40.51 and clocked a time of 2:36.19 in the 200 IM.  Senior, Kassie Kayal (Wayne, N.J.) had another strong performance taking first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.25 and earning third in the 200 freestyle in 2:17.92. Freshman Lauren Becerra (White Plains, N.Y.) also helped lift the Knights to victory with two second place finishes.  In the 1650 freestyle Becerra received a time of 19:48.71 and in the 500 freestyle a time of 5:44.88.

Sophomore Danielle Rodriguez (Highland, N.Y.) took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.55 followed closely by teammate, junior, Deirdre Kenny (Brooklyn, N.Y.) clocking 28.76. Sophomore Meghan Seaman (Staten Island, N.Y.) took second in the 200 freestyle in 2:09.18. Kayal, Keyes, Rodriguez and freshman Sandy Behre (Ogdensburg, N.J) made up the first place 200 medley relay team with a time of 2:11.10. The 400 freestyle relay team also touched first with a time of 4:15.16 and consisted of Seaman, Kenny, Becerra and senior Rachel Johnson (Levittown, N.Y.).

Sophomore Ryan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y.) was victorious in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:33.34 and took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.96. Junior Conor Dowd (Massapequa, N.Y) also finished second in the 200 butterfly in 2:34.36. Sophomore Jason Lorch (Plainview, N.Y.) earned a first place finish clocking 24.33 in the 50 freestyle.

The Knights are back in action January 16 at 4:30 and will host Fairleigh Dickinson University in Newburgh.
