NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College broke up a three-match losing streak with a 9-0 win over the Sage Colleges in Skyline Conference action on Thursday afternoon in Newburgh. The Knights move back to even on the year at 6-6 and to 2-1 inside the conference.
Sophomore
Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) and freshman
Nate Dimmie (Middletown, N.Y.) continued to play well at the top of the doubles lineup and cruised to an 8-1 win. Seniors
Mike McNicholas (Milton, N.Y.) and Nate Ahlberg (Catskill, N.Y.) paired for an 8-0 win at second, while senior
Zach Conlon (Huntington, N.Y.) and freshman
Conor Merryman (Marlboro, N.Y.) rolled to an 8-0 win at third. The third doubles match was highlighted by an excellent, between-the-legs shot from Merryman.
Jacob eased to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles, while Alberg matched his score at second singles. McNicholas started a bit slow, but eventually got rolling on his way to a 6-2, 6-1 win at third. Conlon dominated at fourth (6-0, 6-0) to move to 10-2 on the season. Junior
Bryan Pujol (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and senior
Brian Murphy (Elmhurst, N.Y.) got in on the act at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Pujol won his match, 6-1,6-0, while Murphy claimed his, 6-0, 6-0.
The Knights continue Skyline play against the Polytechnic Institute of NYU on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The match will take place at the College of Staten Island.
