KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 win over Curry College in non-conference action Monday afternoon. The Knights are now 2-0 overall.
MSMC jumped out to a quick advantage with all three doubles points. Sophomores
Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) and
Stat Willand (Sparta, N.J.) played well in an 8-4 win at the top spot. Seniors
Mike McNicholas (Milton, N.Y.) and Nate Ahlberg (Catskill, N.Y.) cruised to an 8-2 win in the second position, while senior
Zach Conlon (Huntington, N.Y.) paired with junior
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) for an 8-2 victory at third.
At the top singles position, Jacob fought through the heat for a 6-2, 6-3 win. Willand was an easy 6-2, 6-0 winner at second, as Ahlberg and McNicholas rolled through at three and four. Conlon cleaned up a 6-1, 6-4 win at fifth singles and Ryan completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the sixth spot.
The Knights continue their Spring Break play tomorrow against Goucher College. The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Haines City, Florida.
