Women’s Swimming Earns Skyline Victory

THROGS NECK, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's swimming team claimed a 125-80 win over Maritime College, their second Skyline Conference win, while the men's team fell to the Privateers, 156-39.

The 100 freestyle was a strong event for the women with the Knights earning the top three times and sixteen points. Junior Deirdre Kenny (Brooklyn, N.Y) finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:18.04 and was followed by freshman Elizabeth Stern (Nanuet, N.Y.) in 12:39.29 and junior Ellen Slocum (Chatham, N.Y.) in 14:12.03. Kenny also earned first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:56.47. Freshman Lauren Becerra (White Plains, NY) took first place, with a nine second lead, in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:10.67. Senior Rachel Johnson (Levittown, N.Y.) also claimed a victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.08.

The 100 freestyle proved to be another strong event for the Knights with Becerra touching first (59.66) followed by teammate sophomore Danielle Rodriguez (Highland, N.Y.) in 1:03.75. Sophomore Meghan Seaman (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished second in three events. In the 200 IM, Seaman earned a time of 2:30.33, which was exactly one second behind Maritime's Mariel VanderLinden, and in the 100 backstroke, she finished in 1:10.83. Sophomore Tara Kayal (Wayne, N.J.) was third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:21.06 followed by Johnson in 1:22.78. Freshman Sandy Behre (Ogdensburg, N.J.) finished first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.59.

The men earned a back-to-back finish in the 100 freestyle as freshman Jason Lorch (Plainview, N.Y.) took second with a time of 51.48 and junior Mark Bohlinger (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took third with a 56.26. Freshman Sam Watson (Groton, Conn.) battled for second place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.51. Sophomore Ryan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y) took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.51 and teammate junior Conor Dowd (Massapequa, N.Y.) also earned second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.73. Murray earned another second place in the 100 breaststroke finishing in 1:08.

The Knights host York and Drew on December 7 in Newburgh. The meet is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
