NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team extended their winning streak to four matches with a dominant, 9-0 victory over Bard College in Skyline Conference action Thursday. The Knights moved to 6-4 overall (3-1 Skyline), while the Raptors fell to 2-3 (1-2 Skyline).
The Knights yielded just two games among the three doubles matches in claiming a 3-0 advantage to start the match. Freshmen
Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Statler Willand (Sparta, N.J.) cruised to an 8-1 win at first doubles, while juniors Nate Ahlberg (Catskill, N.Y.) and
Mike McNicholas (Milton, N.Y.) eased to an 8-1 victory at the second spot. Junior
Zach Conlon (Huntington, N.Y.) and sophomore
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) didn't drop a game in an 8-0 effort at third doubles.
McNicholas was challenged in the first singles position, eventually edging Bard's Erik Wallulis, 6-4, 6-3. Each of the other five singles players posted scores of 6-0, 6-0 in their respective positions.
Mount Saint Mary hosts Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a non-conference match on Saturday, April 9. The start time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
