THROGS NECK, N.Y. – Competing for the final time before the Skyline Conference championships, the Mount Saint Mary College women's swimming team defeated Maritime College, 146-56, on Thursday evening to improve to 10-4 overall. The men's team lost, 132-54, to fall to 10-4.
Freshman
Allison Wyatt (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was the only double winner on the women's side, capturing the 200 individual medley (2:32.82) and the 100 freestyle (1:02.62).
Junior
Alexis Burgos (Jamaica, N.Y.) kicked off the meet with a victory in the 1000 freestyle (12:52.68) and was followed up by sophomore
Megan Pierce (Moriches, N.Y.), who took home the 200 freestyle in 2:20.86. Sophomore
Rachel Johnson (Levittown, N.Y.) sprinted to a win in the 50 freestyle (26.50), setting the stage for Wyatt's victories.
In the late stages of the meet, sophomore
Kassie Kayal (Wayne, N.J.) earned a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:11.93) and sophomore
Deirdre Kenny (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took the 500 freestyle (6:16.49). Junior
Censi Danner (Saugerties, N.Y.) closed out the meet with a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.08).
On the men's side, senior
Brian Heitman (Ramsey, N.J.) provided the only fireworks for the Knights. The senior nabbed victories in the 1000 freestyle (11:15.00) and the 500 freestyle (5:24.39).
Both teams head to SUNY College at Old Westbury for the Skyline Conference championships on Saturday. The meet is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
