NEWBURGH, N.Y. – In a non-conference meet against Elms College on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College men's swimming team posted a tight 88-76 win, while the women's team dropped a 129-76 decision. The men are now 6-0 on the season and the women move to 4-2.
Senior
Brian Heitman (Ramsey, N.J.) was a big winner on the men's side, bringing home three individual events. The senior captured the 1000 freestyle (12:04.82), 100 butterfly (1:00.44) and the 500 freestyle (5:27.98). The only other individual winner for the Mount was freshman
Mark Bohlinger (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) in the 50 freestyle (24:50). Bohlinger took second in the 100 freestyle (1:09.05) and served as the opening leg for the winning 200 freestyle relay (2:17.27). Junior
Andrew Zunich (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), senior
Anthony Celano (Brookyln, N.Y.) and senior
Stephen Bloomer (New Windsor, N.Y.) were members of the victorious 200 freestyle relay team with Bohlinger.
The only two individual event winners on the women's side were sophomore
Deirdre Kenny (Brookyln, N.Y.) and
Allison Wyatt (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.). Kenny captured the 1000 freestyle (13:21.21) and was the runner up in the 500 freestyle (6:37.85). The Knights went one-two in the 100 breaststroke with Wyatt (1:15.23) capturing first and junior
Censi Danner (Saugerties, N.Y.) in second. The 200 medley relay team composed of sophomore
Kassie Kayal (Wayne, N.J.), Wyatt, sophomore
Megan Pierce (Moriches, N.Y.) and Danner brought home a first place finish (2:09.81).
The Knights will have to rebound quickly as they travel to Regis College for a meet tomorrow, Sunday January, 16. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Massachusetts.
