NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team closed out their home schedule with 9-0 loss to St. Joseph's College on Saturday. The Knights dropped to 4-9 overall and to 1-5 inside the Skyline Conference.
Freshman
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) put up the best fight of the afternoon, eventually falling 6-2, 7-5 at third singles. Ryan led 5-2 in the second set before losing the final five games. Sophomore
Mike McNicholas (Marlboro, N.Y.) hung tough at number one singles, losing 6-1, 6-1 to St. Joseph's senior Dan Celentano (Islip, N.Y.).
The Mount's four seniors were honored during a post-match barbecue. Seniors
Brian Cangemi (East Northport, N.Y.),
John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.),
Matt D'Angelico (Shelton, Conn.), and
Ian Jackson (Washington, N.J.) will graduate in May.
The Knights close out the 2010 season on Sunday with a trip to play NYU-Poly. Due to the impending weather, Sunday's match will be held indoors at the College of Staten Island starting at 5:30 p.m.
