FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Senior
John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.) won a pair of matches on Saturday, giving the Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team their only two points of the day in a Skyline Conference loss to Farmingdale State College. The Knights dropped down to 2-4 overall (0-2 Skyline), while the Rams moved to 5-4 overall (3-1 Skyline).
Como paired with sophomore
Mike McNicholas (Marlboro, N.Y.) for an impressive victory as second doubles. Trailing 7-4 in the race to eight, Como and McNicholas rattled off five straight games to take the match, 9-7. Unfortunately for the Knights, the momentum gained from the win at second doubles didn't carry over into the singles play.
Como was the lone winner in the singles lineup, hanging on for a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory at fourth singles. Senior
Ian Jackson (Washington, N.J.) and freshman
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) hung tough in matches at second and third singles, respectively, but each player eventually fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The Knights return to action tomorrow with a non-conference match against Sarah Lawrence College. The action is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Cronomer Park.
